Venom 2: New look at Cletus Kasady/Carnage

Tom Hardy shares all new look at Venom 2 villain.
Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) in the end-credits scene from Venom

With the end of 2018’s Venom, the closing credits scene saw Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock visiting a prison for the mentally insane to conduct an interview with Cletus Kasady (played here by Woody Harrelson), a psychotic sadist serial killer who is writing a warm greeting for Eddie on his jail cell with his own blood before explaining to him that “when he gets out, and he will… there’s gonna be Carnage.”

Most fans will recognize this tease as a nod to Kasady’s super villain alter ego in the comic books, Carnage. A symbiote host who wants nothing more than to cause chaos, destruction and bloodshed. Cletus will also serve as Venom 2‘s main antagonist and beyond the credits scene we were teased with, we had no further look at Harrelson’s sociopathic supervillain. That is until yesterday when Tom Hardy shared with us a first look at the character on his Instagram with the caption “Hello Cletus”. Hardy has since taken down the post but you can find the photo below.

In addition to this new photo, videos taken on set have been popping up all over twitter of a better moving look at Harrelson in scene. You can find one of them below.

Looks like the law has caught up with Kasady in this scene and things may or may not turn out so good for that cop assuming some CGI will be involved post production. Some rumors are suggesting plot threads in Jared Leto’s upcoming Morbius movie may explain how Cletus breaks out of prison.

For those who don’t know Cletus Kasady was Eddie Brock’s prison cellmate and after the Venom symbiote comes to Brock to break him out, it splits into two, producing an offspring which bonds with Kasady and gives birth to the one of the most dangerous villains in Marvel Comics, Carnage. However it looks like the movie will be straying from his traditional origin in favor of another.

Venom 2 is being directed by the talented Andy Serkis and will feature returning stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams and Reid Scott who will be joining Woody Harrelson and Naomie Harris who will be playing the super villainess Shriek, a recurring love interest for Cletus in the comic books.

Venom 2 is slated for release on October 2nd, 2020.
