The sequel to the 2019 film SHAZAM!, SHAZAM! Fury of the Gods has almost wrapped filming. David F. Sandberg, the film’s director confirmed this on Twitter by replying to a tweet that reported the film had finished filming. While Sandberg did mention he was about to shoot, he also provided merit to the tweet by confirming that most of the cast had in fact completed filming their scenes for the film.

While this film is a direct sequel to the original, it is unknown at the time of writing how this film would tie into the Black Adam film that stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the titular anti-hero.

While the plot details are still under wraps, it is sure to focus more on Billy Batson’s Shazam family; his foster brothers, and sisters with whom he shared his powers towards the end of the original film. The first film also teased Mister Mind, the intelligent worm that had a word with Dr. Thaddeus Sivana in his cell. It would be interesting to see if this plays out into the Mind recruiting villains for his Monster Society of Evil.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is scheduled to release in 2023 with Zachary Levi reprising his role as the superhero along with counterpart Asher Angel as his alter-ego. In addition, the film also stars Jack Dylan Grazer, Lucy Liu, and Grace Fulton among others.
