“Death Stranding Director’s Cut”: What it Includes and How to Upgrade
The Director’s Cut of Death Stranding will be available for purchase on the Playstation 5 console on September 24th, 2021. Kojima Productions have been hard at work on this remastered and expanded edition of the game and recently revealed details suggest it’s shaping up to be quite a sizable delivery.
Sony’s recent State of Play event revealed a new trailer for Death Stranding‘s Directors Cut gave us some glimpses of a variety of new boss battles and enemy types, advanced combat mechanics with new weapons, such as a mounted machine gun, additional delivery support, such as a buddy bot to alleviate your loneliness and a cargo catapult to be used for less fragile shipments (if you’re feeling responsible), and a number a race tracks on which players can compete against and customize together. There will also be new story missions that will allow the player to explore further the world of Death Stranding and a Very Hard Mode. Kojima has also teased that there are several more surprises and secrets to discover through gameplay.
As for the trailer itself, Hideo Kojima has been fairly vocal on his social media that it wasn’t edited by him, going so far as to post a Twitter poll asking fans if they would want to see a PV or launch trailer edited by him. Given the current 76% of respondents who chose “definitely want to see,” it seems fair to say that fans agree that the trailer for a ‘Director’s Cut’ should be directed and edited by the director himself.
If you already own Death Stranding on PS4, you can upgrade to the Director’s Cut Digital Deluxe Edition for only $10. However, owners of a PS4 disc copy of Death Stranding must insert the disc into the PS5 every time they want to download or play the PS5 digital version of the game (which you can then play while your PS4 disc is in the drive). That means that PS4 game disc owners who buy the PS5 Digital Edition disc-free console will not be able to get the PS5 version of the game for a discounted price. So if you’re planning to upgrade to the Director’s Cut of Death Stranding and haven’t yet managed to get your hands on a PS5, keep this information in mind when considering which version of the console to buy.
