‘Supergirl’ is here, and she’s not her cousin!
With a social media build-up to its release, our first look at the upcoming Supergirl film has finally arrived. DC fans can catch a glimpse of Kara Zor-El‘s upcoming solo flick. Watch the teaser trailer below, and let’s break it down together.
The trailer opens with Krypto, our favorite Superdog, spilling over a drink and peeing on a copy of the Daily Planet in Kara’s room. What’s of note is that while the front page headlines Superman saving a town from a nuclear explosion, it also has a small article on Supergirl saving cats. Humor to the side, this shows that Supergirl is a public, superhero figure on earth. Or, at least, a hero for cats.
The trailer continues to show Kara (Milly Alcock) boarding a spacecraft and partying at an intergalactic bar where she shares with Krypto that her 23rd year of life will be her best yet. We see scenes of a young woman with a sword (Eve Ridley) joining her in the bar, flashbacks to a city being captured and the area around it destroyed, and a crowd of armed men surrounding her in the bar (perhaps bounty hunters). The main man himself, Lobo (Jason Momoa), is seen about halfway through the trailer walking with a lit cigar in his mouth.
As the teaser continues we witness Supergirl in action, taking out those she’s fighting, while also showing a vulnerable hero who cries with her dog. The trailer ends with her sworded friend asking her about Superman. She replies, “He sees the good in everyone, and I see the truth.”
This teaser trailer certainly displays a Kryptonian with more edge and spunk than Superman. She sleeps in sunglasses, hangs out at bars, and seems to have a grittier perspective on the universe than her cousin does. The poster for the film sums up the vibe of the trailer perfectly: “Truth. Justice. Whatever.”
Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock, Eve Ridley, and Jason Momoa, flies into theaters June 26, 2026.
