[TCN Artist Interview] – Razaras

In this interview, TCN and Razaras will dive into what inspires his work; new and old.

Kittichai Rueangchaichan, a.k.a Razaras, is an amazing, talented artist that has an incredible following on social media. In this interview, TCN and Razaras will dive into what inspires his work; new and old.

Q: Where did the name Razaras come from?

A: It’s so long as I used Razaras on my journey. I try to use my full name Kittichai Rueangchaichan. But my full name is too long and hard to spell for most people, so I decided to use a pseudonym (and I think it’s cool if I have a pseudonym LOL). As a Christian, I really love “Lazarus” in the Bible. I, therefore, chose this name but changed L to R which is the first letter of my surname. That’s why I used “Razaras” as my pen name and why “Razaras” is “R”

Q: How long have you been making art and what inspired you to begin doing it?

A: Since I was a child, I really like drawing. But when I growing up, I decide to stop drawing to be an independent singer. In the year 2011, I got back to drawing again because I have seen digital art on the internet and it’s mind-blowing for me and curious about how to do it. That’s my inspiration for doing digital art. By self-thought learning from the internet. It’s about 9 years for digital art.

Q: What program or software do you use for your artwork?

A: I used Photoshop CC and now I try to use Procreate on the iPad too.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about being an artist?

A: At first, I was doing art because it’s a hobby and I just love to draw a lot. But now,  many people told me that I can inspire them to draw. That’s my favorite thing about being an artist.

Q: Do you have a favorite piece of art? Whether it be yours or from another artist.

A: I got a lot of inspiration from many artists (traditional and digital). It’s hard to decide to select one of them LOL. But if need to choosing one, I select the “Mona Lisa” – Leonard Da Vinci.

Q: One of my favorite pieces of yours is Light Study #113. The lighting and detail are incredible. How long did it take you to finish that one?

A: It’s my pleasure that you liked it. I used the reference for this one and spend around 4 hours finishing it.

Q: What is a dream project of yours?

A:  I love to make games because I worked with games companies for over 8 years as Art Director, UX-UI designer, and concept artist. Also working on various projects e.g. Home Sweet Home game series, Mist Survival, etc.

Q:  Do you believe that making a mistake could be a way of making art even better? If so, do you have an example of your own?

A: Yes, I always believe in that. The mistake is your teacher. You have to learn from them and try to better than it next time. For me, I never think my works are perfect, so I still see my mistake in all my pieces LOL.

Q: Other than being an artist, what do you like to do in your free time?

A: I love to play games when I have free time eg. series Souls and FIFA. Sometimes I play the guitar and read the book too.

Q: Do you have any favorite artists?

A: Master Kim Jung Gi! I’m always amazed when I see him draw!

Q: Do you have any advice for the up-and-coming artists out there?

A: Nowadays the knowledge and the world are seamless, young artists are growing fast (I’m at 36 yrs old now) So, I think the beginners should keep practicing with the base skill ( anatomy, any structure) and find their own style. The unique style will the strongest point to outstanding and it will give you something specials.

Q: Lastly, are there any projects you’re working on that you’d like to announce? Or any special announcements you’d like to make?

A: Thanks for the place! I do not have any special projects right now but in the future, I plan to make an art book of my own. Maybe, you can follow me on Instagram or support me on Patreon. Thanks so much for the interview, happy draw!
