Two New Heroes Are Reportedly Being Added to “The Boys” Season 3 Cast

Things are set to get a lot more .. diabolical .. for Butch , Hughie and the rest of the gang as two new Supes are set make their debut in Season 3 of The Boys.

Although Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys is closer to reaching the conclusion of its sophomore season’s run, the show has already been renewed for a third season. While Supernatural star Jensen Ackles was officially confirmed to join the cast as new superhero Soldier Boy, it seems that Ackles’ Soldier Boy won’t be the only new superhero set to make their debut in the show’s third season.

In a report from The Illuminerdi that unveils new details on the role Ackles’ Soldier Boy will play in the show’s upcoming third season, it has also been revealed that a new superhero will be introduced to fans.

The report kicks off with revealing details that demonstrates Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy will be undergoing some significant changes from his original comic counterpart. Originally created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, Soldier Boy has never been a singular character since the mantle has been passed from one hero to another in the comics. Soldier Boy was originally part of a World War II era team, the Avenging Squad, but ultimately met his demise which led to the mantle being passed over the decades. In stark comparison, The Boys will adopt Soldier Boy as Vought’s first ever superhero and the mantle’s history will only have one character, portrayed by Ackles. In addition, Ackles’ character will reportedly survive the World War II portion of his origin story and go on to become an international icon (similar to how Captain America’s story played out in Captain America: The First Avenger). Another intriguing detail unveiled was that, reportedly, Vought will say Ackles’ Soldier Boy met his demise during a mission, but the truth of Soldier Boy still being alive will be a lingering plot thread for Karl Urban’s Butch and the rest of the gang though out the new season.

In addition, Soldier Boy won’t be the only new superhero fans will see as a new hero, Supersonic , has been created for the show’s third season. Supersonic is set to appear in multiple episodes and is believed to be a former lover of Erin Moriart’s Starlight. Although Supersonic isn’t a character in the comics, it’s widely believed that Supersonic will be replacing Drummer Boy from the comics. For those who don’t know, Drummer Boy is Starlight’s religious ex-boyfriend who was utilized as more of joke than anything. The Illuminerdi goes on to speculate that Supersonic will be more fleshed out and he will ultimately serve as “an emotional hand grenade thrown into the heart of the Hughie/Starlight drama”.

With the third season on the horizon, it seems like delays should be minimal going forward. While the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing, many projects throughout the industry have resumed/begun production with safety protocols in place. With that being the case; filming is expected to commence in early 2021, putting The Boys right in line with a similar release date of this recent season next year.

While fans all over the world are universally praising The Boys second season, Amazon Prime is hard at work expanding the “Vought Universe” to heights fan never even thought was possible. With a newly green lit college themed spinoff show being fast tracked into production and casting already underway for season three, it appears fans of the diabolical show will be getting much more content within the Vought Universe for years to come.

The Boys releases a new episode every Friday , until October 9th, only on Amazon Prime Video. You can check out the promo for this week’s episode of The Boys below.
