[DC FanDome 2020] “SHAZAM!” Panel Review

This DC FanDome panel is different then many of the ones that have preceded it, this one is not going to tell us Sh!t about Shazam 2 or so we thought.

The 2019 hit SHAZAM! stars Zachary Levi and Mark Strong and made over $300 million in the U.S. This DC FanDome panel is different then many of the ones that have preceded it, this one is not going to tell us Sh!t about Shazam 2 or so we thought.

Shazam, or as he was known then Captain Marvel, first appeared in Whiz Comics #2 in 1940. The story the film followed was that of Billy Batson and his journey to become a fully grown super-hero.

The panel started out with Levi alone talking about how they can’t really say much, if anything about the sequel. He decided to open it up to fans to answer some questions.

Obviously, that was not going to work because there was so much he could not say.

Levi brought in his co-stars Faithe Herman, Meagan Good, Asher Angel, and Jack Dylan Grazer. Immediately warned by Levi they could not say squat.

Levi began talking about how he is doing an “outside the box” cut of his own for SHAZAM! and it was like that was David Sanberg’s cue to appear showing obvious concerns.

Herman decided since they could not reveal anything, she would draw a poster for the movie. Once she completed her masterpiece, she revealed her work.

To everyone’s surprise there was a clear drawing of Sinbad in the center of the poster. Good responded with,

“Wait, wait, wait, wait Faithe is that Sinbad the comedian?”

Then who shows up like the genie in the movie he was never in, Sinbad himself. Many people including his own family have collectively believed he starred Shazam before it existed.

He came on to rectify that situation by declaring he will have a significant role in the SHAZAM sequel. While Levi stated he wasn’t sure he could just do that it appears Sinbad has other ideas.

Just before they wrapped up Adam Brody joined them. He was just in time for the collective freak out to the addition Herman made to the poster. SHAZAM: Fury of the Gods is now on the poster.

Everyone questioned Sandberg if that was indeed the name of the movie. Sandberg begrudgingly answered,

“Yes”

Even though they were not really permitted to say much they were at least able to give us “EXCLUSIVE CONTENT!” as Levi would scream. The panel was much like the movie, a fun joy ride filled with laughs.

SHAZAM! is currently streaming on HBOMAX and SHAZAM: Fury of The Gods will come to theaters November 4th, 2022.

If you missed the panel, an encore presentation will air at 3:40 am EST.
