Guillermo del Toro invites us once more into the the breach with Pacific Rim: Tales from the Drift
When Guillermo del Toro announced that Pacific Rim 2 was on the way late last year, 2017 never seemed so far away. Luckily, his promise to spread the franchise across multiple media platforms before then might be enough to wet my whistle until then. The first prong of this multimedia attack, Pacific Rim: Tales from the Drift, will continue the story found in the comic, Pacific Rim: Tales from Year Zero. Check out the official synopsis below:
Legendary is taking fans back to the frontlines of a larger-than-life battleground with Pacific Rim: Tales from the Drift, the official new comic series presented by director Guillermo del Toro, featuring a story from Pacific Rim screenwriter Travis Beacham. A continuation of the bestselling graphic novel Pacific Rim:Tales from Year Zero, the new Pacific Rim comic series will feature Jaegers never before seen in combat, squaring off against all-new Kaiju creatures.
The series comes from writer Joshua Fialkov (The Bunker, I, Vampire, Elk’s Run) and features artwork by Marcos Marz (Batman Confidential, Blackest Night: JSA).
No word quite yet on when we’ll see the animated series del Toro also mentioned in his announcement. If I had to guess, I’d say the series would likely be released to in late 2016 to build excitement for the theatrical release of Pacific Rim 2. I guess this means we’ll have plenty of time to rewatch Evangelion and other inspirations for the genius that is Pacific Rim.
Look for the four issue miniseries starting this November in a comic shop near you.
