Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes hits PS3 and XBOX360 in 2013

This past weekend at PAX, Hideo Kojima unveiled the next installment for the Metal Gear franchise, METAL GEAR SOLID: GROUND ZEROES.

With its reveal came the news that the game is being considered as the “official prologue to Metal Gear Solid 5” and once again Big Boss Naked Snake takes center stage.

Metal Gear Solid series creator, Hideo Kojima, shared at his Penny Arcade Expo talk over the weekend, that the title of the next major Metal Gear game refers to a specific origin in the series.  So its speculated that the game will lead into MGS5 which very well might bridge itself into the very first Metal Gear games where it was Solid Snake vs Big Boss.

The game itself will use the new Fox Engine, which the director says could be used for other Konami games in the future, and surprisingly that the system is actually current-gen: PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, but can also scale for next-gen platforms.

The footage itself is breath taking, espicially when you realize at the end of the video its all run in realtime and actual gameplay footage.

Also in the footage we’re introduced to a suited figure that appears to be one of the game’s main villains. This character wears a black, flat-brimmed cowboy looking hat, while his face is severely burnt and disfigured. In the footage its revealed that he has possibly captured Paz and Chico from Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, and appears to be part of a group called XOF, and he calls his squad of soldiers “an army without a nation”. Which could possibly imply he has ties to Big Boss already.

The game is set to release on PS3 and XBOX360 in 2013.
