Animated Versions of “Diablo” and “Overwatch” in Development at Netflix

“Diablo” and “Overwatch” are getting their own adaptations on Netflix in animated style.

Recently, Netflix has been involved in making adaptations of anime and video games, as well as making their own anime content. It should come as no surprise, then, that it has recently been announced Diablo and Overwatch are getting their own adaptations on the service in animated style.

This news comes straight off the LinkedIn profile of co-president of Activison Blizzard studios, Nick Van Dyk. He also has been attached as producer on Skylanders Academy, another Netflix animated series based off of an Activison Blizzard property. The profile confirms that Diablo is in pre production and will be, “rendered in anime style.” It also confirms through a statement that Nick Van Dyk has, “developed and sold an animated series based on Blizzard’s Overwatch franchise.”

A Diablo series in the past has been rumored to be coming to Netflix due to writer Andy Cosby posting on a now deleted Twitter post that he was in “final talks to write and show-run the new DIABLO animated series for Activison and Netflix.” On the other hand, this would be the first time an Overwatch animated series has been considered to the streaming giant.

While that is all we know about the series so far, if I were to put my money on what to expect from these series, Diablo would follow along the lines of the popular Castlevania anime series due to the dark content matter. Overwatch would follow along the lies of Skylanders Academy due to the franchise’s more light-hearted content matter.
