Remember that NBC show ‘Heroes‘ from a few years back? “Save the cheerleader, save the world,” and all that jazz? It did very well the first season, then suffered a steady decline in both story and viewers until it was cancelled after the fourth season. You may have heard already that it’s coming back sometime this year.

Series creator Tim Kring has stated the new series will focus on a new cast of heroes, rather than attempting to bring back the old cast. As of now, only one person from the original show is attached to the new series: actor Jack Coleman, who played company man Noah Bennet, also known as the Man with the Horn-Rimmed Glasses. So who else will be joining the cast?

The nerd king, Zachary Levi, that’s who.

Zachary Levi is probably best known for his role as the lead character in the wildly popular action/comedy Chuck. He also starred as Fandral of the Warriors Three in Thor: The Dark World recently, and is the founder of the website The Nerd Machine and Comic-Con event panel, Nerd HQ. Not to mention his role as the valiant thief Flynn Rider in Tangled. He had the following to say about his recruitment to Heroes Reborn:

I was a fan of their collective work and always thought it was such a fantastic and fun world they got to play in. With ‘Heroes Reborn,’ I’m honored to have the opportunity to bring more of that world to life, and excited to help in offering the fans of the franchise an epic new installation of a series that made such a huge impact on entertainment.

I personally think this will be a great fit. I went through ‘Zachary Levi withdrawal’ after Chuck ended, and would love to see him in a new show. His likeable personality and versatility as an actor could land him in almost any type of role, although I have a hard time picturing him in a villain’s role.

NBC is reportedly eying a Summer 2015 launch for Heroes Reborn; exact date to be determined.
