CONFIRMED: FINAL FANTASY XIII On XBOX360 Is Half The Size of PS3 Version.

I just got the heads up from a few friends of mine who have review copies of Final Fantasy XIII and thanks to them its confirmed that The Xbox 360 “port” of Final Fantasy XIII has almost half the size of the PS3 version, coming in at 18GB on 3 DVDs opposed to the sizable 38GB on one Blu-Ray Disk.

They sent me a photo of the size break down for the install, and it comes out to be Disc 1: 5.9GB, Disc 2: 5.8GB, and Disc 3: 6.6GB, with the grand total coming to: 18.3GB.

While Xbox360 owners will probably claim that “careful and efficient movie compression by Square-Enix” is the cause of the difference, but as the voice of reason I hope to state that even with such compression, the fact that the Xbox360 is loosing over 50% of the size the PS3 game is getting it cant be just from graphic compression and more than likely due to a combination of music/sound compression and other minor changes through out the game.

While this comes as no shock to PS3 fans, I do think its actually a shame that a game that was supposed to be an “absolutely identical” port turned out to be so different from its PS3 counterpart.

Updated: Turns out that although the game is smaller, the numbers were actually referring to the Xbox360’s Install size only.
