Amazon.com angers Uncharted 2 Fans Part 3 – Final Update
Almost a month has passed since the release of Uncharted 2 for the Playstation 3. Gamers stormed the game, collected trophies, won promotional contests, and wage war on a near constant basis with its online multiplayer mode.
Yet fans seemed to place a black mark on Amazon for their pre-order bonus.
While fans were quick to blame Amazon.com for the obvious problems with the Digital Treasure map (see parts 1 and 2 for details) many didn’t see that the map was in fact made by Sony and Naughty Dog, and Amazon was just the supplier.
I contacted both Amazon.com and Naughty Dog to see if either were planning to take any form of action, while Naughty Dog never got back to me, Amazon.com sent me this;
Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com.
First, please allow me to extend my apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.
I am sorry to hear about the digital treasure map that comes along with your item Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. It is certainly not our intention to ship damaged products to our customers.
We make every attempt to package items securely to protect them during shipping, but sometimes damage does occur.
We always appreciate customer input on how we can improve our store, and I’ve passed your message along to our shipping department and to minimize the chances of anything like this occurring again.
Since the digital treasure map comes along with the game we are unable to replace the digital treasure map alone. We’ll replace this item at no cost to you. However, we’re unable to send individual items from a set.
However, you do have these options:
1. We will replace the entire set at no additional charge
2. If you prefer to keep the item we will refund 20% off the purchase price of this item
3. You may return the entire set for a full refund.
As a representative of Amazon.com, I want to assure you that we value our customers’ trust above all else–it’s the foundation on which our company was built. Please know that we’ll continue working hard to ensure that you receive accurate service.
Again, I offer my apologies for any inconvenience or frustration this situation may have caused.
While many fans still hold Amazon.com responsible for this, I now believe that because of Amazon’s effort to make it up to its buyers , as well as the simple fact that the games pre-order price, including shipping, was cheaper than buying it in store, that the black mark gamers placed on them for this can safely be removed.
While I don’t see the actual Digital Treasure Map getting an update and being fixed anytime soon, Amazon has done sufficient work to fix the problem they became involved in.
