Meanwhile, Freddy Krueger is officially making his long-awaited return to the big screen. Paramount has secured the rights to Wes Craven‘s original A Nightmare on Elm Street screenplay and is developing a brand-new film. With Waldron now attached, that long-awaited debut may finally be on the horizon.

Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle Will Return In Superman: Man of Tomorrow

BLUE BATTALION RISE!!! Speaking with Variety, Xolo Maridueña has confirmed that he will reprise his role as Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle, in next summer’s Superman: Man of Tomorrow. The announcement marks the character’s first live-action appearance in the rebooted DC Universe and continues James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s commitment to carrying select actors from the former DCEU into the franchise’s new continuity.

Maridueña’s return has been expected ever since Gunn confirmed that, while 2023’s Blue Beetle was not a DCU film, Jaime Reyes himself would become part of the new shared universe.

While plot details for Superman: Man of Tomorrow remain tightly under wraps, Blue Beetle’s inclusion further suggests that the sequel will continue expanding the DCU beyond Metropolis.

Despite underperforming at the box office, Blue Beetle was widely praised for its heartfelt family dynamic, grounded coming-of-age story, and Maridueña’s charismatic performance. Those elements helped the character cultivate a passionate fanbase, making his return one of the more anticipated developments of the new DCU.

With production now underway on Superman: Man of Tomorrow, Blue Beetle becomes the latest hero confirmed to appear alongside the Man of Steel as James Gunn continues to flesh out the world’s growing roster of heroes.
