Watch the first trailer for ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’

While it’s been nearly a decade since the last GTA game, the new trailer arrives a day early.

In an unexpected turn following a social media leak, Rockstar Games has officially released the much-anticipated trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI. The reveal, which comes after a long series of rumors and anticipation, confirms the game’s release in 2025.

Of note is the introduction of Lucia, the series’ first female protagonist. The trailer opens with Lucia in prison, and a city sign soon confirms a return to the iconic Vice City. The trailer teases viewers with quick shots of urban crime, interspersed with modern elements like TikToks and live-streams, hinting at social media’s significant role in the game’s storyline.

Tom Petty’s “Love Is a Long Road” accompanies the visual feast of car-related crimes and unexpected alligator appearances, a nod to the game’s Florida setting. This musical choice underscores the long journey and challenges players will face in this new installment.

The journey to this reveal has been long, with fans eagerly discussing GTA VI since the release of GTA V in 2013. Despite a major data breach in 2022 that leaked early development footage, Rockstar has managed to keep the excitement alive, with publisher Take-Two Interactive hinting at significant financial projections tied to the game’s launch.

Grand Theft Auto VI is confirmed to be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S Consoles. There is no mention of a PC release at this time.
