“The Crown,” “GoT” Actor Tobias Menzies Reportedly in Talks for HBO Max’s Sinestro

The DCEU’s Green Lantern Corps may be gaining another member.

HBOMax’s upcoming Green Lantern series may have found its Sinestro! According to reports from comicbook.com and The Illuminerdi, actor Tobias Menzies is in talks to assume the role described in the character breakdown as “the greatest of all Green Lanterns.” He would join previously announced stars Finn Wittrock as Guy Gardner and Jeremy Irvine as Alan Scott. The series will reportedly follow the Lanterns’s adventures across multiple time periods including the 1940s, 80s and present day. Popular conjecture is the show could portray Sinestro’s transformative story from leader of the Lantern Corps to his fall from grace and emergence as the great supervillain he is today.

Menzies’s genre-spanning career has been on quite a roll! In the last 2 decades he has portrayed roles in everything from classics works of Chekhov and Shakespeare to Casino Royale alongside Daniel Craig’s James Bond to the last Underworld horror franchise installment. His memorable roles in Game of Thrones and Outlander were followed by 2 seasons as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh in the critically acclaimed Netflix series The Crown, for which he won a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2020.

As Variety reported earlier this year, HBOMax first announced the Green Lantern series as in development in 2019 and ordered it to series last year. 10 one-hour episodes will be co-written and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim, with Grahame-Smith serving as showrunner.
