Fans of the Tomb Raider franchise will be delighted as Swedish actress Alicia Vikander confirmed that the sequel to the 2018 film Tomb Raider will likely start shooting in 2021.

While on Good Morning America, Vikander said:

“The plan was for us to start making one this year, of course, due to the [pandemic] situation, that’s now very different, We’re still in discussions about it, so I hope we can probably get to it next year.”

The studio has a tentative release date of March 2021 set but it may change due to various reasons. The first Tomb Raider movie featured Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. She initially is a carefree teenage daughter of a wealthy empire determined to make something of herself and later goes on a globe-trotting adventure to find her lost father, through which she discovers the secrets of Himiko.

Ben Wheatley (Free Fire, Kill List) is set to direct while Amy Jump (High Rise, Free Fire) is writing the film.
