TwitchCon San Diego 2020 is the latest in the ongoing series of in-person events suffering cancellation or delay due to COVID-19 concerns. Unfortunately, in this case, TwitchCon San Diego has been fully cancelled.
The TwitchCon Twitter page shared the following announcement on the status of the convention, with the promise that they are “exploring ways that we could join forces in an alternate dimension later this year.”
TwitchCon Amsterdam 2020 was also cancelled in March due to coronavirus health and safety restrictions. Other large conventions that have been cancelled this year include E3, San Diego Comic Con, Gamescom, and Blizzcon. However, organizers have expressed interest in hosting digital events for game, media, and tech reveals, like PlayStation and PC Gamer have done recently.
Being a streaming platform, it is likely that Twitch will also adopt a similar approach and transition to a streaming event that brings creators, fans, and sponsors together digitally.
TwitchCon has also posted an FAQ on their website for attendees and fans interested in updates.
