“God of War” director hints at sequel’s story details
Pay attention, boy!
In an interview with Playstation Access, Cory Barlog, director of God of War, subtly intimated some tantalising information around a potential story theme for the highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 Santa Monica Studio game.
Little to no detail has been given about the sequel since the debut of the first game in this soft reboot of the original God of War series of games, until now, that is.
“The story of Faye and Kratos meeting — there’s less weight when you don’t know anything that’s coming ahead, right?
Meeting her needs to actually feels like something… that you already know the story that we told here, so that there’s a greater weight behind who she is.
She’s got a mythology built up.”
Barlog is saying here that he thought it best to show us what the impact of her dying is — what it does to Kratos and Atreus. Only once we have seen and experienced the hurt, loss and torment of seeing them mourn and fight for Faye do we feel the impact of seeing the relationship that they each would have with her, and the relationship they have as a family. Seeing the result of her death adds gravitas to her life.
2018’s God of War sequel has not yet been formally announced by Sony or Santa Monica Studio, God of War was a PS4 exclusive but depending on when it is announced, the sequel could be a cross-platform release between the PS4 and PS5. We will have to wait and see.
