Luke Mitchell becomes Inhuman for Agents of Shield
Luke Mitchell (Home and Away, The Tomorrow People) has been offered a role in the ABC spy series, Marvel’s Agents of Shield. According to Variety, Mitchell is set to play a charismatic Inhuman, a human with DNA altered by the bad guys from Guardians of the Galaxy, the Kree. Mitchell’s character will be something of a mentor to Sky (Chloe Bennet), as she comes to terms with her own status as an Inhuman.
The Inhumans made their appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during the mid-season finale of Agents of Shield, where it was revealed that Sky and her father, played by Kyle MacLachlan, is the villainous Dr. Calvin Zabo/Mr. Hyde. In the comics, The Inhumans are a race of superhumans, with Black Bolt and Medusa likely being the most well-known.
The revelation on Agents of Shield gives Marvel plenty of time to set up the characters before 2018, when the Inhumans movie is set to release.
Based on what I’ve seen, Marvel may be setting up the Inhumans as their stand-ins for mutants, since Fox still stubbornly owns the rights to the X-Men. If so, this could mean that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be explained as such in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron.
“Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” returns to ABC on March 3 at 9 p.m.
