According to the directing team of Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, John Wick may just get a sequel. Movies.com reports that Stahelski has confirmed the project is “in development.” The duo’s debut film was one of the most pleasant surprises of 2014 thanks to their dedication to telling a good story paired with excellent stunt work.

The pair seems set on outdoing the original while maintaining the character development and momentum built by the story:

“We know we can outdo the action from the original. It’s the matter of story and how much you like the character. That’s always the most important. If there’s great action but you have a character that no one likes and doesn’t have charisma you’re not going to watch it. Look at any great action star, whether it’s Harrison Ford or Liam Neeson or Robert Downey Jr., pick a name, you love the guy first. Good action, bad action, you just love them in action. So we want to make sure we have a story and a character that everybody loves and then we’ll dress it with action that we promise will be awesome.”

I’m happy to hear they understand this, and Keanu Reeves was great as the titular soft-spoken assassin. Speaking of whom, it’s too early to say if Keanu will be returning for the sequel, though the directors would love to have him back. “If we could work with Keanu Reeves for ten movies you’d have a really cool career.”

The team is on their way to being some of Hollywood’s go-to directors, having already been offered the director’s chair for Cowboy Ninja Viking starring Chris Pratt. We should keep a close eye on these guys, as it’s likely only a matter of time before they’re directing some of the summer’s biggest blockbusters.
