Channing Tatum not officially signed on as Gambit yet

In another exciting round of everybody’s favorite game, “Jumping the Gun,” it turns out that the announcement that said Channing Tatum was set to play Gambit in upcoming X-Men movies may have been a bit premature.

According to Tatum himself in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the deal is not quite set in stone. When asked about the role, Tatum had this to say:

I hope to be joining — everything’s not done yet. I’ve obviously been in talks, and we’re on the one yard line. I’m always afraid of being like, ‘Yes it’s totally happening’ and then it doesn’t happen.

Last week, I wrote a bit of an opinion piece about how well Channing Tatum would fit into a role as Gambit. I, for one, hope that the fact that Channing Tatum isn’t signed on as the crimson-eyed card caster means that the casting director is still reviewing other, and potentially better, actors. We may still get the Gambit we deserve.
