Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Post Captain America 2 plans are revealed

ABC's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." - Season One

**WARNING – Spoilers for Captain America: The Winter Soldier Ahead**

Marvel shook their Cinematic Universe this past weekend with the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Many who have seen the film were left speechless with the film’s reveal of Hydra growing within and puppeteering Shield for decades, and with the film’s resolve of Shield being pretty much left in shambles.

Many left wondering what would happen to ABC/Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show but now, only days after the film’s release, we may have an answer.

Earlier this morning, USA Today had revealed Marvel’s plan for the future of the TV show. Executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen  stated that:

“Survival is a huge part of it. There is no more tapping into big S.H.I.E.L.D. through the holo-comm. The guns you have on the plane are the guns you have. They’re basically left with the bare minimum.”

“Hopefully people who’ve had mixed feelings about the show will now understand it was all part of a big plan.”

Executive Producer Jed Whedon (brother of Avengers Director Joss Whedon) revealed that the shows characters will now go from being a part of “the most massive organization ever created by man,” to “a ragtag bunch scraping things together.”

“This will have a ripple effect, but it’s an exciting opportunity to tee up to it and then play out from it. I think people will be excited by how we did that.”

Members of the show’s cast revealed that they were shown a rough cut of the film prior to filming the final 6 episodes of the first season (which begin airing this upcoming week) and all knew what would be happening to Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. post film. Actor Clark Greg revealed to IGN:

“This is a show about a guy who’s always been a company man. He’s not afraid to make fun of people if they’re taking themselves too seriously within that structure, whether they’re superheroes or SHIELD agents. But he dedicated his life to this and grew up a fanboy of Cap, so everything he believes is going to be called into question if SHIELD isn’t what it seems to be. That said, this is also a guy who died and was brought back and had one version of how that happened, and then he found out that those were all lies. So his whole world is getting torn down, and that’s really interesting to play. As an audience member and someone who loves Marvel, it’s always been something that they’ve messed with with SHIELD, and rightly so. It couldn’t be more germane to this moment, because if you are the keeper of secrets, if you are the surveillance entity, who’s watching you? Traditionally, anyone who’s had that responsibility has abused it.”

At this points fans are openly expecting a tipping point in the show, and with the future 6 episodes promising more cameo appearances tying the show deeper into MCU continuity fans can be rest assured that Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. saved the best for last.
