William Fichtner is playing The Shredder in ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’
In a reveal that probably result in many fans being torn between their feeligns, it has been revealed that actor William Fichtner will be playing the coveted role of the iconic villain, The Shredder, in the upcoming reboot Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The reveal came from when the actor was recently chatting with HuffPost Canada TV:
I play Shredder. It is cool. It’s one of those things that came along where I thought, “Really? Let me think about this for a minute.” [Laughs] Then I was like, “Yeah, OK, this sounds like a journey.” I’m very glad that it worked out, I’m really glad that I’m doing it.
Speculation that the actor would be taking on this role has been running for week, so it may not come as a surprise for many. The rumors and speculation began once the director himself, Jonathan Liebesman, stated that the actor would be playing a character “with iconic stature in the Turtles’ mythology.” Which led many to speculate that he would be playing either The Shredder,Baxter Stockman, The Rat King, and even Casey Jones.
While it hasn’t been confirmed which incarnation of The Shredder that Fichtner will be playing, ranging from the villainous (and Japanese) Oroku Saki, to the more recently portrayed “immortal” robotic version which basically has The Shredders body being an exo-suit for one of the alien Utroms (Krang is one of those).
In the end, only time will tell. Personally I think Fichtner is an amazing actor and he could very well fill the role despite any incarnation they decide to go with. Currently Paramount has Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles scheduled for a June 6, 2014, so odds are we will see more of it sooner rather than later.
