Game of Thrones Actor Sets Viking Record
Game of Thrones actor Hafthór Júlíus Björnsson, who portrays fearsome character Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane, is apparently a real-life badass.
At age 26, the strongman competitor has crushed a thousand-year-old record during the World’s Strongest Viking competition. The feat? Carrying a 650-kg log (that’s a whopping 1,433 lbs) for 5 steps. Recorded in an Icelandic Saga book, legend holds that the previous competitor, Orm Storulfsson, was only able to carry the mast for 3 steps before breaking his back. The monster of a log required “50 mere mortals” to hoist into place. The achievement also won the actor the title of World’s Strongest Viking for the second year in a row.
Björnsson has also won the title of Strongest Man in Iceland, and has his sights set on The World’s Strongest Man competition.
Dunno about you, but I’m gonna go do some lifting now.
