What seems like a huge surprise to everyone, Warner Bros. announced today that they have officially pushed the release date of the Batman/Superman movie, an alarming 10 months from its original release date of July 17, 2015 to May 6, 2016 which they state is to allow “the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story.”

But what many dont know, and what could be the biggest shock of all, that May 6, 2016 slot is actually currently occupied by an unspecified Marvel Phase 3 film. Meaning quite literally it will be a Marvel Vs DC box office showdown that weekend.

So whats to come of the now abandoned July 2015 release date that Batman/Superman once held? Apparently WB has already filled the gap with Joe Wright’s Peter Pan film.

“We are happy to take advantage of these coveted summer dates, which are perfect for two of our biggest tentpole releases,” Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman said in a statement. “We share the fans’ excitement to see DC Comics’ most popular figures, Superman and Batman, together on the big screen for the first time, which will now be arriving in theatres in May 2016. Peter Pan has delighted people of every generation for more than a century, so we are thrilled to bring him back to the screen next summer for today’s moviegoers.”

While its sad to see the film getting postponed, it is nice that they’re taking their time with it, and this move could also help support the recent rumor that they are filming Batman/Superman and Justice League back to back.

Batman/Superman is now currently set to release on May 6, 2016.
