Xbox One wont be worth getting until next year… at the earliest

I recently decided that I wanted to get an Xbox this month. Fortunately, the decision for which Xbox to buy is an easy one. The new Xbox One isn’t even a contender. Here are the exclusive launch titles:

Dead Rising 3, The Fighter Within, Crimson Dragon, Forza Motorsport 5, Killer Instinct, LocoCycle, Powerstar Golf, Ryse: Son of Rome, Zoo Tycoon, Zumba Fitness World Party

I know these games will appeal to each of the set of niches that Microsoft wanted to appeal to. But they didn’t appeal to their existing fans. I want an Xbox so I can play Call of Duty and Halo with all the folks that play Call of Duty and Halo already.  The new Call of Duty game (Ghosts) is coming out for the Xbox One, but it is also coming out for the 360. The new Halo game doesn’t come out until next year sometime. Mix in the fact that the Xbox One won’t play older games, and I start to see why the Xbox launch is doomed. I think the Microsoft will sell a ton of them over the years, but at this point, why buy an Xbox One now? It makes sense to wait for Titanfall, the next Halo game, or any of the other very sweet games that will be next-gen exclusives. If the games is already out for the 360, why wait for the Xbox One version? Everyone playing or wanting to play Halo this holiday season has exactly one choice of where to play it: on a 360 or not at all (unless you have an original xbox in working condition).

What was Microsoft thinking?
