Over this past weekend at their D23 Expo, Disney held a special “Kingdom Hearts Limited Stage” event at the Maihama Ampitheater at the Tokyo Disney Resort. During the event, Square Enix shared a few new and interesting tidbits of information in regards to the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3.

According to the report made by FF-Reunion, shortly after showcasing the trailer for the recently revealed Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix, Square Enix debuted a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts III. The trailer was reportedly very different from the one shown at its reveal during E3  earlier this past year, and it showcased various battle scenes, where Sora is seen fighting the Heartless at Traverse Town, And reportedly at one point, he shoots a homing Fire spell and it appeared that Sora’s Keyblade appears to change its form into a weapon that can shoot multiple Fire spells simultaneously.

The next scene in the trailer that Square Enix showed offered a peek at an action called “Roll Splash,” which caused a pirate ship that resembled a Disney Land attraction to be summoned and Sora, Goofy, and Donald are all shown hopping in and attacking their enemies in this new vehicle.

The final scene in the trailer showed a fight against the Rock Titan, and featured the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Disney Land attraction. The video showed that the train advances while railroad tracks continue to appear in front of it, and the fight itself seemed to heavily involve having to spin circles around Titan with the train as the player continued attacking it. According to the report, the skill name was named “Big Magic Mountain,” as indicated with a logo on the players power up gauge.

Series director Tetsuya Nomura stated that the footage that was shown in the demonstration are in fact parts of the game that have already been made to be playable, contrary to the E3 video being completely pre-rendered.

According to another separate report by Gamer.ne.jp, Nomura also stated that Riku will be returning in this game and will play a significant role in the story of Kingdom Hearts III, leading many to believe that the game just may feature an interweaving storyline with multiple characters, much like done in Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. Additionally it was also revealed that both Sora and Riku will have new clothing in Kingdom Hearts III, and the Kingdom Hearts 2 costume seen in the E3 trailer was just a placeholder.

Kingdom Hearts III is currently in development for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with no set release date.
