Ravencroft Institute to play a role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Thanks to the Miracle of Twitter and the active involvement of Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb, we have a cool first look at several plot details in the upcoming sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
The most recent addition to the mix is the inclusion of the Ravencroft Institue.
For those of you who don’t know the significance of the Ravencroft Institute it plays quite an interesting role in the comics. According to the Marvel Wiki, “After Dr. Ashley Kafka demonstrated great skill in treating super-criminals with her psychiatric skills, the US government decided to create the Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane. The facility was designed as a maximum security facility with varying degrees of success. “
Notable inmates/patients of this facility are:
Former patients include:
- Prism (Robbie)
- Massacre (Marcus Lyman)
- Electro (Maxwell Dillon)
- Vulture (Adrian Toomes)
- Carnage (Cletus Kasady)
- Doctor Octopus (Otto Octavius)
- Jackal (Miles Warren)
- Shriek (Frances Barrison)
Now while this doesn’t exactly scream “holy crap guess who may have a cameo in this movie!?” it does lay some very interesting groundwork for the film and its established mythos. Rumors suggest that this is the same facility that was shown in the ending scene from the first Amazing Spider-Man that housed Dr. Conners/The Lizard, so there may exist a reference to his whereabouts there. What it does seem to help reference is a possible back story to the villain of the film, Electro, played by Jamie Foxx.
While as of right now, nothing is for sure, it is very interesting to speculate the inclusion of the Ravencroft Institute in this upcoming film, and I for one am extremely excited to see where they take it.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to hit theaters May 2nd, 2014.
