The Michael Fassbender staring ASSASSIN’S CREED films find a home with Fox Stuidos
Prior to this morning, fans knew and understood that the only real update we had for the upcoming Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed film was that Michael Fassbender was somehow going to be involved and it was “really happening”.
Variety this morning broke the news that this film is one step closer to becoming a true reality. The news was broken today that it has found a new a co-producer (New Regency) and distributor (20th Century Fox).
Along with the news came some very interesting rumors about the direction of the film itself.
Word on the street is that this film will indeed be set in the same overall universe as the games, but that it will be not based on any of the games we have currently seen. Meaning original story and original characters.
Word is that they are even planning a tie in game for the movie. Not so much an adaption of the film but more of an extension.
New Regency president and CEO Brad Weston, stated the following about their involvement with the film:
“We wanted to do everything we could to secure the rights to ‘Assassin’s Creed,’ which Ubisoft has maintained with such care and quality over the years”
Ubisoft also reportedly hopes to have the film up and running next summer with the remaining pieces (script, director, full cast, etc.) in place according to Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures.
The franchise has had some wide success since its debut in 2007. With a total of 5 console games on the heavy hitter systems, one of which that will be released at the end of this month.
