Spaceballs Sequel to Hit Theaters 2027

The Search for More Money

Amazon MGM Studios‘ has announced that a new Spaceballs sequel is in the works with a planned 2027 release for theaters.

A sequel to the 1987 Star Wars parody Spaceballs is on it’s way. Mel Brooks, who directed and starred in the original film, will produce and return as Yogurt. Described as “A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film” the film is sure to delight fans and audiences alike.

Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis will also return to reprise their roles as Lone Starr and Dark Helmet. Joining them will be Lewis Pullman, son of Bill Pullman and who most recently appeared as Sentry in Thunderbolts*. Keke Palmer will also be joining the cast in an unknown role according to Deadline.

Josh Greenbaum, director of Strays and the documentary film Will & Harper, will direct from a script written by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad.

Those involved with the film have long talked about a Spaceballs, but it had always seemed to never get beyond those talks. The news today is not only surprising but amazing when you consider that the original cast will be returning to reprise their roles. Rick Moranis in particular has been absent from the silver screen for over 28 years and not even the most recent Ghostbusters movie could not coax him out of retirement. While he has not been on our screens for decades, the actor did return to voice Dark Helmet briefly in the sitcom series The Goldbergs in 2018. The actor was also due to return for the Honey I Shrank the Kids soft reboot film Shrunk. However, Disney has put that project on indefinite hold.

As for the Spaceballs “franchise” it returned briefly as a 14 episode animated series in 2008, although that series is best to be forgotten.
