Disney’s new ‘Snow White’ trailer has arrived!
Over the past several years, Disney has taken advantage of some of its beloved films and people’s nostalgia by making live-action remakes of classics such as The Lion King, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid. Now, the studio is adding Snow White, its very first princess movie (released in 1937), to the list. Starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, this new interpretation is set to hit the big screen next March. And the official Snow White trailer has arrived this week for fans to see!
The trailer begins with Snow White (played by Rachel Zegler) reflecting on what her father’s kingdom used to be like. Now, it’s under the rule of her stepmother, the Evil Queen (played by Gal Gadot). When the Evil Queen realizes that Snow White is the fairest of them all, Snow White must go into the magical forest for protection. Met by a slew of CGI animals, she stumbles upon the house of our seven favorite miners where she meets her new friends who will help her take back the kingdom. The trailer ends with the classic meeting between Snow White and the old hag who offers her a red apple.
The trailer shows an up-and-coming Zegler seeking to give a new depth to a classic princess. By the end of the trailer she’s leading a rebellion against the Evil Queen. Her vocals are shown off through a new original song, Waiting on a Wish, by none other than Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, well known for their work on Dear Evan Hansen and The Greatest Showman. Likewise, Gadot shines as the intimidating yet intriguing Evil Queen. And the scenes in the trailer were quite beautiful.
The film does look set to use a hefty amount of CGI, mostly noticed in the animals and the miners. And it certainly seems to be a new, re-worked telling of the well-known story. Disney remakes have not always been well-received, and only time will tell whether this ends up being a new classic or falls to the wayside.
