Comic-Con@Home: Coming to a Streaming Device Near You
Unfortunately, San Diego Comic-Con 2020 (SDCC) as we know it does not exist. Due to taking the proper precautions for social distancing, Comic-Con will not be held in San Diego, California this year. Say hello to Comic-Con@Home: the official name given to this year’s Comic-Con event, to be held July 22–26, 2020.
Normally, this popular convention would house nearly 200,000 individuals. We have now received a press release detailing how SDCC plans to bring this virtual event to possibly millions (billions?) of homes:
Plans for Comic-Con@Home include an online Exhibit Hall complete with everyone’s favorite exhibitors offering promotions, specials, and limited-edition products unique to the celebration. As well, Comic-Con@Home promises exclusive panels and presentations about comics, gaming, television, film, and a wide variety of topics from publishers, studios, and more. As if that weren’t enough, Comic-Con@Home will also have a Masquerade, gaming, and many other activities in which fans can participate from their own homes.
Comic-Con@Home will be free to attend and has no indications of guest limitations. Participants will be encouraged to use the social media tag #ComicConAtHome during the activities.
“For the first time in our 50-year history, we are happy to welcome virtually anyone from around the globe,” said SDCC spokesperson David Glanzer. “Though stay-at-home conditions makes this a very difficult time, we see this as an opportunity to spread some joy and strengthen our sense of community.”
The event schedule and details will be revealed prior to the festivities on SDCC’s official blog, website, and social channels.
