Are Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd the top contenders for Ant-Man? JGL doesn’t think so
Rumor on the street is that Marvel/Edgar Wright is currently eyeing either Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd for the lead role of Hank Pym in the upcoming Marvel Phase 3 film, Ant-Man.
Variety reports that its possible a third name could turn up, but that right now Gordon-Levitt and Rudd both have to met with Marvel and Wright, and a choice is on the way.
While either actor would make a fine addition to Marvel, its interesting that the rumor points to two actors that are seemingly on apposing sides of the spectrum. On one hand you have Joseph Gordon-Levitt, whos recent film Don Jon has shown his more comedic side, is primarily known right now for his roles in Looper and The Dark Knight Rises, neither of which were comedic but heavily action packed. On the other hand, you have Paul Rudd, who is a major player in the comedy genre, but who quite literally has never been in an action film, unless you count the “anchorman rumble.”
But, according to Joseph Gordon-Levitt, this is all a rumor.
In an interview with the Huffington Post, Gordon-Levitt said the following in regards to this recent rumor;
“There is always a lot of rumors around these projects and so far it is still only discussions. I am always very transparent when it comes to my role and my career. I’m usually the first to speak and communicate with my fans if something happens . If you hear nothing from me, they are just rumors .”
Ant-Man is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on July 31, 2015.
