Two New Dragon Ball Anime Series Announced

It’s a good time to be a Dragon Ball fan

Not one, but two Dragon Ball anime series are on their way as the franchise celebrates it’s 40th anniversary this year.

Dragon Ball is returning to our screens with the announcement of two new anime at Japan’s Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event.

First up is what everyone has been hoping for. A sequel to Dragon Ball Super. The series will be titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol and will adapt the Moro Arc which was the first arc to be featured in the manga after the Tournament of Power arc. The Tournament of Power arc was the last story of Dragon Ball Super that the series concluded with. While the anime was over, the manga continued on. Many fans had hoped and expected that Toei Animation would eventually adapt the manga arcs for screen and it seems that time has finally come. Toei are currently producing the series and will release it in 2027.

The second Dragon Ball series will titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. Toei have decided to do a remake of the 2013 animated movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods. Interestingly, this will be the third time they will tell the story in animated form. Dragon Ball Super had adapted the movie into the series and retold the story over 15 episodes. Rumors have been flying around for months about a remake of Dragon Ball Super. This was due to quality issues with the animation on it’s first run. Might we see other arcs in Dragon Ball Super remade? We might get a situation similar to Dragon Ball Z Kai where they enhance the series and bring it closer into line with the Manga in the run up to the Galactic Patrol arc.

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus arrives fall 2026 with Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol arriving in 2027.
