Marvel’s Feige gives updates on Fantastic 4, the Future of the X-Men and Thunderbolts*
At a virtual appearance at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore the president of Marvel Studios gave some updates on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to Deadline Feige appeared on screen at the showcase and pointed to his hat when asked about which Marvel property he was most excited about. The cap was of course, The Fantastic Four.
“We’re finally bringing Marvel’s First Family into the MCU. They wrap next week, the movie comes out next summer, and then all those characters go right into the next Avengers movies, so I’m very excited for the future of the Fantastic Four.”
The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be the start of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is set to star Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The film hits theaters July, 2025.
On the future of the X-Men in the MCU Feige had this to say.
I think you will see that continue into our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, one of those dreams come true that we finally have the X-Men back at Marvel Studios.”
Marvel regained the rights to the X-Men in 2019. Since then, fans have been patiently waiting for the Mutants to return with their own Marvel movie, not counting this year’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Feige touched briefly on the summer blockbuster talking of his time on the set of Deadpool & Wolverine and his reaction to seeing Wolverine’s yellow jumpsuit in action for the first time.
That gave me goosebumps on set when Hugh [Jackman] walked out wearing that costume and when he puts the mask down for the first time. I’ve been waiting 25 years to bring that to life.
As for Thunderbolts* Feige was asked again about the meaning of the asterisk symbol in the Thunderbolts* title to which he replied it would be revealed at some point in the movie. Marvel’s first antihero film is set to be released in May, 2025.
It’s taking characters that are from all different types of places and all different types of franchises and putting them together. That’s what the Avengers is, that’s what Guardians of the Galaxy is.
The two day APAC Content Showcase highlighted the company’s 2025 to 2026 theatrical and streaming schedule. The upcoming schedule is from Disney’s subsidiaries, Disney Animation, Pixar, 20th Century Studios, Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios. 2025 is shaping up to be a big year for Marvel Studios. Three movies, three live action series and three animated series are set to be released. Which ones are you most looking forward to?
