Fans are Ready for the ‘Switch 2’, Expecting New Details Soon

Is Nintendo sneaking a hint to its fans? We try to connect the dots for the next drop of Nintendo news

The Nintendo Switch was released 7 years ago, and for 7 years the Switch has been providing its staple Nintendo entertainment for people of all ages. As the life of the Switch is in its twilight, rumbles of the next Nintendo console, the ‘Switch 2’ as it’s known for now, is gaining steam.

In a recent X post, president of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa, states that the Big N will make an “announcement about the successor to the Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year.”

Furukawa states that an announcement will come within this fiscal year, that would put us no later than the end of March 2025. But what’s fueling excitement for a possible announcement sooner was a post on X by Nintendo of America. A joke of perfect a perfect “10/10” score for Luigi’s head first landing, promoting the new Mario & Luigi: Brothership.

Seems like a simple joke, but with Nintendo, anything goes. The subtle statement from president Fukuhara was a very nonchalant way to hint that the Switch successor is near completion. And using the simple “10/10” joke can very easily be a subtle hint of October 10th.

In a recent podcast on Vandal (a Spanish gaming website) Blade CEO Ruben Mercado, whose company is currently making gaming accessories and peripherals for the ‘Switch 2’, gave his insights to the ‘Switch 2’. In the interview for Vandal, Mercado believes the next Nintendo console is “done” and ready to launch in March or April of 2025.

In addition to those remarks, Mercado also talks about the differences and enhancements between the near-complete ‘Switch 2’ kits he had to work with and its predecessor. Mercado also wagers that the release of the ‘Switch 2’ could depend on Nintendo’s financial success of the current fiscal year.

According to Mercado, if Nintendo needs a boost, they could very well launch by March 2025. If Nintendo is feeling flush, they could wait and release the new console as they please. Announcing the ‘Switch 2’ relatively soon would give Nintendo 6 months to advertise and release in the same calendar window as they did as its current counterpart in 2017.

This is all speculation of course, as Nintendo is famous for being the most tightlipped about anything. Would an announcement this Thursday be incredible? Absolutely. Likely? Likely not. But it is fun to connect the dots and hope for the best.

One thing is for sure, the ‘Switch 2’ is closer to being officially announced today than it was yesterday.
