Spider-Verse Producer shares concept art for pitched ‘Batman Beyond’ animated movie

In a recent tweet, Writer/Director Patrick Harpin (π˜”π˜Ί π˜‹π˜’π˜₯ 𝘡𝘩𝘦 π˜‰π˜°π˜Άπ˜―π˜΅π˜Ί 𝘏𝘢𝘯𝘡𝘦𝘳) & Production Designer/Producer Yuhki Demers (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, 𝘚𝘱π˜ͺπ˜₯𝘦𝘳-π˜”π˜’π˜―: 𝘈𝘀𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴 𝘡𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘱π˜ͺπ˜₯𝘦𝘳-𝘝𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦), have announced on social media that they have been pitching a new Batman Beyond animated movie to Warner Bros. Pictures.

According to their posts on X and Instagram, the duo walked into Warner Bros. Pictures five months ago with a pitch for a Batman Beyond animated feature. Despite initial reservations from the studio, their enthusiasm and outline for the entire film have begun to win over the executives, and they are hopeful of securing a meeting with the new CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn.

To generate excitement and support for their project, Harpin and Demers have shared some concept artwork for the movie, which features the distinctive neon-lit aesthetic of the Spider-Verse films in a futuristic Tokyo-inspired setting. We see Terry McGinnis as Batman standing on rooftops, walking through rainy alleys, and an action shot of him fighting the iconic villain Inque through busy traffic.

It’s been over 20 years since the original Batman Beyond Animated Series. Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker came out in 2000 and is still one of the best Batman animated movies of all time. DC fans have been starved to see a fresh take on the character. There is, however, a live-action fan film in the works, Batman Beyond: Year One, hoping to scratch that itch for many. You can check out our conversation with the creators behind that project here.

While there has been no official announcement from Warner Bros. or DC Comics, the fact that Harpin and Demers have been able to get this far with their pitch suggests that there may be some momentum behind the project. Miles Moralis skyrocketed to popularity with Sony’s animated Spider-Verse film, and it’s no understatement to expect equal potential to introduce Terry McGinnis to a new generation if given similar treatment in an animated Batman Beyond franchise.

With the success of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, it’s clear that audiences are hungry for more innovative and visually stunning animated superhero films. We’ll keep a close eye on this developing story and bring you more updates as they become available. In the meantime, let us know in the comments if you’re excited about the prospect of an animated Batman Beyond movie!
