Sources close to TCN has revealed that the project for Ben Affleck’s Batman on HBO Max will likely consist of eight episodes and will take place before Batman V Superman and after Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The content will include backstory between Joker and the death of Robin, Bruce’s divorce, and the decomposition of Wayne Manor. They have been currently scouting shooting locations and looking for an actor that could portray Robin. We have been told that the actor they are looking for Robin is an adult, and this incarnation is a seasoned character that will meet his demise at the hands of Joker.
The Deathstroke portion of the series will include backstory for Slade Wilson, Bill Wintergreen, and his contract with Lex Luthor. Jesse Eisenberg is close to a deal to reprise his role as Luthor, as is Joe Manganiello in his role as Wilson/Deathstroke. This project is expected to shoot after The Flash releases in 2022.
Sources have also revealed that The Ayer Cut, also known as David Ayer’s Suicide Squad is still on track. The project will use recent facial scans of Jared Leto, taken during the additional photography of Zack Snyder’s Justice League to complete its final sequence, which was previously reported to have used a body double to complete the unfilmed scene with the Joker.
If Zack Snyder’s Justice League proves successful for HBO Max, the project is expected to be announced shortly after for a release within the end of 2021 to beginning of 2022 exclusively on that platform.
Lastly, sources also revealed that the inclusion of a human Green Lantern will likely not be in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Snyder had previously prepared to use a human Green Lantern in his film, however he has not been able to “officially” cast anyone in the role prior to his departure. This had left the casting unfulfilled, and the studio (Specifically Toby Emmerich and Walter Hamada) decided to not allow him to complete the casting and include the character prior to additional photography last fall. During his original shoot, Zack Snyder was able to complete some sequences with a human Green Lantern using a stand in. However, due to the constant studio interference and their repeated requests, it is unexpected that he would be able use this footage in the final cut releasing this March. The biggest surprise came from the revelation that Snyder was preparing to use John Stewart on his final team instead of Hal Jordan, with the latter character originally expected to be included in their plans for Green Lantern Corps as the senior/mentoring hero to John and Justice League 2.
Prior to the recent schedule change for Godzilla vs Kong, HBO Max was looking at three different dates to release Zack Snyder Justice League. March 18, March 20, and March 25. Now that Godzilla vs Kong has moved, it is expected that the final release date will be locked within the next week and announce to fans with the release of the next trailer in the coming weeks.
