Temuera Morrison Casting Confirmed for “The Mandalorian” – is this The Return of Boba Fett?

You might remember back in May of reports regarding legendary Star Wars character and fearful bounty hunter, Boba Fett, appearing in the next season of The Mandalorian. The hit Disney+ show that first released last fall was connected to a report that actor Temuera Morrison would be returning to the Star Wars universe in some capacity, likely as a bounty hunter on a dangerous mission of his own. The Australian casting team Showcast recently updated Morrisons profile with a credit for the upcoming Mandalorian series as non-other than Boba Fett. It would make perfect sense that Morrison would portray the bounty hunter on camera, as he is a clone of Jango Fett, a past Star Wars character played by Morrison.

The character known as Jango Fett first appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the second of the three-film prequel series that began in 1999 with SW: The Phantom Menace. He is essentially the model for what would later become hundreds of thousands of clones that were conditioned to be Stormtroopers. His genetic make-up was utilized by Emperor Palptine to create the perfect soldier. Boba Fett is one of those clones, secretly taken in by Jango, raising him as if he was his real son. Boba Fett originally appeared in SW: The Empire Strikes Back, the sequel to the one that started it all, SW: A New Hope. He later appeared in SW: The Return of The Jedi to swiftly die in a very unsatisfying death via falling into a ‘sarlacc pit.’

Even though Boba Fett was killed in Return of the Jedi, he was still brought back to life in the now non-canon Star Wars ‘legends’ book series. When Lucasfilm was first purchased by Disney back in 2012, the official canon was to only include the six previous live-action films and the animated show Star Wars: The Clone Wars. All previous books, comics and video-games were no longer apart of the Star Wars universe. Boba Fett seemingly rising from the dead may no longer be canon, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t happen again.

Disney has yet to confirm or deny that Morrison will be making an appearance but the character was teased to appear in the Disney+ series at (spoilers) the end of the episode titled ‘The Gunslinger’ following the death of Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen). However, it clearly looks like Temuera Morrison will be making an appearance on the show in some capacity, whether it be Boba Fett, Jango Fett, Mace Windu or maybe just a random clone!

The second season of The Mandalorian starring Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, and Carl Weathers will release exclusively to Disney+ October 30th, you can watch the latest trailer below:
