On February 20th, 2009, Warner Bros. made the announcement stating with combined domestic and international gross The Dark Knight broke the 1 billion mark with a totaled $1,001,082,160 to date (roughly $533 million domestically and $567 million overseas).
The fourth movie to break the mark following only “Titanic”,”The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”. The Dark Knight is also is the second-highest domestic grosser of all time, trailing only “Titanic.”
The Dark Knight was only $4 million shy of the Billion mark until its IMAX re-release in January, following its announcement of 8 oscar nominations.
