Zack Snyder Announces Extended Director’s Cut

It’s not even in theaters yet and Zack Snyder is talking about Watchmen’s DVD release. Comics Continuum has reported that Watchmen director Zack Snyder said that the film will be released in 3 editions.

Snyder talked about the different releases yesterday at the Watchmen press junket.

“We’re hoping that we do, at the time of release of the DVD release in July, they release a director’s cut, which is three hours long,”

“In the fall, they’re going to do the Black Freighter cut, which is all the ins and outs of the Black Freighter, which is the comic book within the comic book. We shot all of those. The final result of that is like a 3-hour, 30-minute/25-minute version of the movie which is everything. It’s the kitchen sink version.”

“It’s really three different movies in a lot of way. I think the theatrical versions, which is radically strange in its own way, fits IMAX. I think the director’s cut, which is almost three hours, is pretty most of the stuff that we shot, 99 percent of the stuff that we shot, which I like by the way.”

When commenting on the two extended versions he stated that “The Black Freighter version” will have The Black Freighter material  incorporated into the movie and is “just crazy” and will also include all the material with the news vendor character. And aside from the Freighter version, the director’s cut is a much harder and more intense version of the theatrical movie.

“It’s more violent, if you can imagine,” Snyder said. “It’s slightly more sexy. It’s more Manhattan nudity. It’s just more of everything.”

Seems like Warner Brothers is taking what some say an “over extensive” amount of Watchmen material and turning them into individual movies. With “Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic” and the animated movie “Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter & Under the Hood” coming out this March just prior to the movies theatrical debut, fans will definitely be getting their fill of Watchmen.
