The Sequel to Godzilla Minus One Has an Official Title

The sequel to 2023’s Godzilla Minus One will be titled Godzilla Minus Zero (Godzilla -0.0). It will be the 34th Godzilla movie to be produced and released by Toho Co., Ltd.

The title was announced by Toho on Monday at Godzilla Fest in Tokyo marking the end to the 70th Anniversary celebrations. While many have speculated about the title of the sequel to Godzilla Minus One we now have an official confirmation that it will be called Godzilla Minus Zero and will once again be written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki. Yamazaki will also be supervising the VFX on the film. The director had already confirmed earlier in the year that work was underway on the film’s script and storyboards.

Godzilla Minus One, which was released in 2023, was a massive hit grossing $113 million worldwide on a reported budget of $10-$15 million. It went on to win the Oscar for best visual effects at the 96th Academy Awards, giving the Big G it’s first ever Academy Award.

Godzilla Minus One takes place shortly after World War II when Japan is at it’s lowest point. The country is attacked by a giant nuclear monster that will later become known as Godzilla. Given that the sequel is titled Godzilla Minus Zero it’s quite possible that a third movie will have the title Godzilla One or Godzilla Plus One.

Godzilla Minus Zero currently does not have a release date but late 2026 to 2027 seems likely.
