‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’ will hit theaters in December 2027.

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema announced that The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will release in theaters on December 17, 2027. The franchise makes its live-action return through Andy Serkis who directs the film while bringing back his Gollum character.
The story follows an unexplored Middle-earth period which occurs between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens wrote the screenplay alongside Peter Jackson who serves as a producer together with them.

The upcoming film will provide audiences with new insights into Gollum’s character through its examination of unshown aspects from his narrative. The involvement of original trilogy veterans has led fans to speculate about the return of familiar characters although casting information remains secret.
The announcement arrives after the 2024 animated release of The War of the Rohirrim and matches the ongoing expansion of J.R.R. Tolkien’s universe through Amazon’s The Rings of Power series.
The upcoming release of The Hunt for Gollum will deliver a new understanding of Middle-earth through its exploration of its most intricate and mysterious character.
