Star Wars Celebration Japan has just finished. Here’s a look at everything that was announced.
Star Wars Celebration was held in Japan this past weekend from April 18 to 20. The sold out event drew huge crowds in what must have been an exciting time for all involved. For fans who didn’t get to go, don’t despair. There is still plenty to get excited about with the upcoming releases that have been announced.
Star Wars Starfighter

The film by Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy has been rumored for a while but now we finally have an official announcement. Levy and surprise guest star Ryan Gosling appeared on stage to let the world know that the next Star Wars film to go into production is Star Wars Starfighter. The standalone film will be set after the sequel trilogy and will be released May 28, 2027 on the 50th anniversary of the franchise.
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord

You can’t keep a good Sith Lord down. Maul returns to the Star Wars universe yet again, this time in his own animated series. The series will take place between Star Wars Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Sam Witwer, who was on stage for the announcement, will once again voice the dark lord. The series arrives on Disney+ 2026.
Star Wars The Mandalorian and Grogu

Of course, the next Star Wars film to be released will see the return of the Mandalorian and Grogu. Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver and Jon Favreau appeared on stage to discuss the upcoming film and offer a sneak peak at some footage. In the footage we see the Mandalorian storm an AT-AT walker before blasting away with Grogu in tow. The film hits theaters May 22, 2026.
Star Wars Visions

Not only were nine new shorts announced for Star Wars Visions 3 but also a spinoff series called The Ninth Jedi which will continue the adventures of Kara and Juro, two characters that we first saw in episode 5 of Star Wars Visions volume 1. Star Wars Visions will debt on Disney+ October 29. The spin-off series’ release date has not yet been announced.
Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 2

Perhaps the biggest news was the return of Hayden Christensen. The actor, who celebrated his birthday at the event, is due to return in season 2 as Anakin Skywalker once again. It’s unknown exactly what kind of role the character will play in the series but it’s likely to be either through the use of the force or in flashbacks to the Clone Wars. Another character from Star Wars is also set to return, none other than Admiral Ackbar. The Admiral will go head to head with Thrawn in season 2.
Ahsoka’s season 2 filming begins this week, with the series expected to be released sometime in 2026.

The next Star Wars Celebration returns to US shores in 2027 and will take place in Los Angeles from April 1-4.
