James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ gets his Krypto
The first big ticket DCU movie has received its initial look at Krypto the Superdog; shared by writer/director James Gunn on his various social media accounts.
Echoing a similar image also shared by Gunn in the same post, taken from ‘All Star Superman‘ #6 (written by Grant Morrison, with art by Frank Quitely), the new look shows Kal-El and Krypto sitting on the Moon looking across empty space towards Earth.
Gunn explains that he chose October to reveal Krypto because it aligns with #AdoptAShelterDog month. This version of Krypto is inspired by his own rescue dog, Ozu, and the challenges Gunn faced when he first adopted and welcomed Ozu into his home.
Gunn remembered that during the struggle, he wondered to himself:
“Gosh, how difficult would life be if Ozu had superpowers?”
Gunn explained that at this point, Ozu changed his real life and the introduction of Krypto influenced the evolving story of Superman .
The upcoming film features David Corenswet as Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan portraying Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer. The cast also includes Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Sean Gunn, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Isabel Merced, and Nathan Fillion.
The film is currently set for release on July 11, 2025.
