Disney+ sets sail with Percy Jackson Season 2
As we expected, Disney+ has officially announced the renewal of Percy Jackson and the Olympians for its much-anticipated second season. The announcement comes on the heels of the series’ successful debut, captivating audiences and rekindling interest in Rick Riordan’s beloved saga. The upcoming season promises to plunge viewers into the tumultuous waters of The Sea of Monsters, the second book in Riordan’s epic pentalogy.
Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO, shared the exciting news during a recent investor call, highlighting the show’s monumental success. “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” which premiered on Disney+ and Hulu in December, has not only garnered critical acclaim but also propelled the book series back to the top of the New York Times Bestseller List.
The road to bring Percy Jackson’s world to the small screen has been nothing short of heroic. Rick Riordan’s persistent pitches to Disney began in 2019, following the acquisition of 20th Century Fox. This endeavor set in motion a two-year pre-production led by showrunners Dan Shotz and Jonathan E. Steinberg, culminating in eight months of filming.
The journey to the Sea of Monsters in Season 2 will test Percy Jackson and his friends and introduce pivotal characters like Tyson, Percy’s Cyclops half-brother, and Thalia, a demigod transformed into a tree by Zeus himself.
Riordan’s involvement and optimism for the series should continue to ensure a faithful adaptation of the source material and an improvement upon it with the benefit of hindsight. The half-bloods’ next odyssey in Percy Jackson Season 2 is poised to be an epic continuation of their journey, promising more monsters, gods, and, of course, the unbreakable spirit of heroism that defines the series. Stay tuned as the quest for glory continues on the shores of Disney+.
