LOTR Cast Takes on Quest to Buy J.R.R. Tolkien’s Home
The name of J.R.R. Tolkien is heralded and revered as one of the great authors of epic fantasy literature. His realm of Middle-earth, with its heroes and villains, hobbits and wizards, orcs, goblins and a curious creature named Gollum, are known the world over. With the release of both the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogies, the names of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, Gandalf, Aragorn and many others have become house-hold names in the 21st century.
Now cast members from both of these magical film series are coming together for a new quest. The quest to save the home of J.R.R. Tolkien from being sold.
Sir Ian McKellen and John Rhys-Davies, alongside Hobbit star Martin Freeman and others, are appealing to Tolkien fans all over the world to show their support for a new organization with a singular purpose.
Project Northmoor aims to purchase 20 Northmoor Road, in order to establish a literary center dedicated to Tolkien. Tolkien and his family moved to the house in 1930 and it was in the 17 year span that he resided at Northmoor Road, that the author wrote both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books.
An initial goal of £4 million ($5.4 million USD) is needed in order to purchase the house. Further funds raised will allow for the renovation of the property into a homely house, restoring the gardens and other wonderful endeavors.
