[Review] Son Of Batman(2014)
Son Of Batman was released in 2014. The movie is directed by Ethan Spaulding, and stars Jason O’Mara, Stuart Allen, Morena Baccarin, Thomas Gibson, Sean Maher, and Giancarlo Esposito. The plot sees Talia Al Ghul and Damian Wayne on the run from Deathstroke after he takes over the League Of Assassins. Batman must then help Damian stop Deathstroke and halt his sinister plans.
This movie has a solid strength and that is Damian Wayne. This movie kicks off his character arc which develops all throughout this shared universe. Stuart Allen infuses a lot of charisma, arrogance, and humor into the role. There is a lot of other strong voice acting here, Steve Maher is a really good nightwing, Of course Morena Baccarin brings a lot of emotion to Talia, and David McCallum’s Alfred is very funny. His dry delivery makes all his lines pop.
Jason O’Mara again feels so unenthusiastic and wooden in his performance. His reaction to finding out he has a son is just so lifeless and just tells me he doesn’t care. Deathstroke is also pretty disappointing, and doesn’t make a very good villain. He feels very bare bones with not much backstory to him other than an angry ex student of Ra’s Al Ghul.
This movie introduces the amazing character of Damian Wayne, and a great side cast of Batman characters. Batman himself and Deathstroke feel hollow and uninteresting however, Batman because of the performance, and Deathstroke from the writing. I think this movie is a lot weaker than some of the other Batman animated movies, but it’s worth watching to see the progression of Damian Wayne.
