Fox Gives “Deadpool” a Release Date and the film will likely be PG-13
Last week the news broke that Fox would be finally moving forward with a Deadpool solo-film. The Hollywood Reporter made the reveal, and with it reported that the movie will hit theaters Feb. 12, 2016. Tim Miller is also set to direct the long awaited film, with Ryan Reynolds reprising the role of Wade Wilson/Deadpool.
Many sites are citing that the more recent test footage leak, and the massive fan outcry in approval of it, is the primary culprit of Fox taking this property seriously, and apparently fans aren’t the only ones who think this. In a recent interview with the Niagara Falls Review., Reynolds commented on the recent test footage leak, suggesting it helped move the process along:
“The movie has been in a state of limbo for a while. There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, ‘Oh, so we weren’t crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.’ It’s interesting to see the power of the Internet. It’s awe-inspiring, actually, and it’s neat that Twitter and Facebook and Instagram can move mountains when used in the right way.”
Thanks to Comic Book Movie, we know that the latest edition of the “Meet the Movie Press” podcast, thier host revealed some changes which have been made to the project which may have led to it getting green lit:
“I heard from the director that they finally figured out the script, and it was right before this was announced, that they figured out, and you guys are all gonna hate this, they figured out how to make it PG-13. And therefore “not lose its soul”, and that’ a quote, of the script so that they can make it.”
So is it a bad thing that Fox is pushing it to PG-13? Not at all. With the recent trend in Hollywood to push the bounds of the PG-13 rating to the limits, having a character such as Deadpool under the restrictions of the rating isn’t a hard sell, even the most recent X-Men film had blood, violence, and even an F-Bomb got dropped, so the Merc with a mouth could easily work with this rating.
Deadpool will hit theaters on Feb 12th, 2016.
